Stephen Frayne
Senior Principal Scientist
Steve combines technical innovation, team building, and strategic planning to drive product development and bring new technologies to market. Most recently he spent 5+ years at Via Separations, where he developed a novel membrane technology to decarbonize industrial separations, guiding it from proof of concept to commercial deployment.
Steve earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from Wesleyan University, working on selective thiol-Michael reactions for synthesizing multifunctional polymers and dendrimers. Following his Ph.D., he was a postdoctoral scholar at MIT, where he designed chemically resilient polymers for separations.
Steve has authored 14 peer-reviewed papers on the design and synthesis of organic materials, holds four issued patents with several more pending, and is passionate about applied chemistry, energy efficiency, and triathlons.
