Celebrities with Food Allergies
If you’ve ever picked up the tabloids, you’ve likely seen columns like “Stars—They’re Just Like Us!” It’s usually a celebrity performing some mundane task like carrying a bag of dog food or leaving the nail salon—small reassurances that these seemingly larger-than-life individuals are regular people too! 😆
We recently had an office conversation about celebrities with food allergies, and when we started digging in, we realized there are LOTS of them—so maybe, stars ARE just like us!
Here’s our list of celebs with reported food allergies and intolerances for you to peruse:
Halle Berry: American actress and the first African American woman to win an Academy Award for Best Actress for the 2001 film Monster’s Ball. She’s allergic to shellfish.
Josh Turner: American country and gospel singer, and actor. Josh is gluten intolerant.
Clay Matthews: American former football linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams. Clay’s allergic to peanuts.
Emmy Rossum: American actress, television director, and singer-songwriter. She’s best known for The Phantom of the Opera, Mystic River, The Day After Tomorrow, and playing Fiona Gallagher in the TV series Shameless. Fun fact: our CEO and Emmy went to the same summer sleepaway camp as kids! Emmy has celiac disease.
Steve Martin: American actor, comedian, writer, and musician. You probably know him best from Father of the Bride (classic!). Steve’s allergic to shellfish.
Elisabeth Hasselback: American television personality, talk show host, and author. You may remember her from the daytime talk show The View. Elisabeth has celiac disease.
Steve Omischl: Canadian freestyle skier. He’s a three-time Olympian and the first man to ever perform a quadruple twisting triple backflip with two twists on the last flip in competition. He’s allergic to peanuts.
Bethenny Frankel: American entrepreneur, author, and television personality. She was an original cast member on Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York City and is the founder of Skinnygirl. Bethenny is allergic to fish.
Zooey Deschanel: American actress and singer-songwriter. Over the holidays, you’ve probably seen her opposite Will Ferrell in the movie Elf. 🎄 She’s also the voice of Bridget in Trolls! She’s allergic to eggs, dairy, and wheat.
Joshua Jackson: Canadian-American actor. He’s best known for playing heartthrob Pacey Witter on the TV series Dawson’s Creek, and for The Mighty Ducks, Cruel Intentions, and The Skulls. He’s allergic to peanuts and tree nuts.
Khloe Kardashian: American media personality, entrepreneur, and socialite. You probably know her best from Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Khloe is allergic to coconut.
Jessica Simpson: American singer, actress, and fashion designer. At age 16, she signed a recording contract and released her debut (and biggest!) hit, “I Wanna Love You Forever.” She’s allergic to milk, wheat, tomatoes, coffee, corn, and chocolate.
Bill Hader: American actor, comedian, writer, and producer. His career began at Saturday Night Live—you may know him best for his character Stefon on Weekend Update (“This place has everything...”). Bill’s allergic to peanuts.
Sabrina Carpenter: American singer and actress. She’s best known for her roles in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Disney’s Girl Meets World, and The Hate U Give. In 2023, Carpenter opened for Taylor Swift on the Eras tour. Sabrina’s allergic to apples.
Drew Brees: American former football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. Drew is allergic to wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs, and nuts.
Rachel Weisz: British-American actress. You might know her from The Constant Gardener, The Bourne Legacy, The Favourite, or more recently, Black Widow. Rachel is allergic to wheat.
Busy Phillips: American actress and writer. She is another Dawson’s Creek alum and starred in the TV shows Freaks and Geeks, ER, and Girls5eva. She’s allergic to soy with sensitivities to wheat/gluten.
Tom Poti: Former American professional ice hockey player. He’s allergic to peanuts, chocolate, and fish, among other foods.
Jo Frost: English television personality, nanny, and author. She is best known for the reality TV show Supernanny. She is allergic to shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts.
Ariana Grande: American singer, songwriter, and actress. Ariana has won two Grammy awards, nine MTV Video Music awards, 12 Teen Choice awards, and all her studio albums have been certified platinum or higher. Plus, she’s one of the most followed women on Instagram with 379 million followers. Ariana’s allergic to shellfish, tomatoes, and bananas.
Adrian Peterson: American former football running back who played 15 seasons for the NFL. He is widely thought to be one of the greatest running backs in football history. Adrian’s allergic to shellfish.
Kelly Clarkson: American singer, songwriter, and television personality. She won the first season of American Idol in 2002. Kelly was also a judge and coach for nine seasons on The Voice and has her own daytime talk show. She is allergic to peanuts.
Justin Morneau: Canadian former professional baseball first baseman. He played for the Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies, and Chicago White Sox. He’s gluten intolerant.
Bill Clinton: The 42nd President of the United States. Bill is allergic to chocolate and gluten.
Chelsea Clinton: American author, global health advocate, and the child of former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Chelsea is allergic to gluten.
Miley Cyrus: American singer, songwriter, and actress. You might remember her as Hannah Montana, and unless you live under a rock, you’ve heard one of her songs (Party in the USA, anyone?). In 2024, Miley won Record of the Year at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. Miley has intolerances to gluten and lactose.
Clay Aiken: American singer, TV personality, actor, and politician. He gained fame when he came in second place on the second season of American Idol in 2003. Clay is allergic to several foods, including coffee, chocolate, shellfish, tree nuts, and mushrooms.
Kelis: American singer, songwriter, and chef. She’s sold six million records worldwide and has been nominated for two Grammys and two Billboard Music Awards. Kelis is allergic to peanuts.
Malia Obama: American writer, director, and activist, and the daughter of former U.S. President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. Malia is allergic to peanuts.
Drew Barrymore: American actress, producer, author, and entrepreneur. She achieved early fame when she starred as a child actress in E.T. She currently hosts The Drew Barrymore Show. Drew’s allergic to coffee and garlic.
Ray Romano: American stand-up comedian, actor, and screenwriter. He is best known for his Emmy-winning role on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. He is allergic to peanuts.
Billy Bob Thornton: American actor, writer, director, and musician. You might know him from Monster’s Ball, Armageddon, Primary Colors, and Fargo. He’s allergic to shellfish, and has dairy and wheat intolerances.
Margot Robbie: Australian actress and film producer known for thinking pink—it’s Barbie! She’s allergic to egg whites—but only from chicken eggs.
Kate Beckinsale: English actress best known for her roles in romance and action films. She is allergic to coconut.
Nicole Kidman: Australian-American actress, film producer, and advocate. She is known for her celebrated roles in Paddington, Moulin Rouge, Eyes Wide Shut, Big Little Lies, and many more. Nicole is allergic to strawberries.
Jerome Bettis: American football hall of fame running back who played in the NFL for 13 seasons. He is one of the NFL’s all-time leading rushers. Jerome is allergic to shellfish.
Luke Bryan: American country singer, songwriter, and television personality. You may have seen him as part of the judging panel on American Idol. He is allergic to fish.
Whew! That’s quite the list! There are also several celebrities who have openly talked about their children’s food allergies, including Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, Tia Mowry, Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, and Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick.
